Turbine flow meter model
A Turbine Flow Meter operates on the principle that a flowing fluid engages the rotor causing it to rotate at an angular velocity proportional to the fluid flow rate. The meter is inserted directly in the flow path of a pipe and has a turbine rotor placed in the path of a flowing stream. The rotor turns at a speed that is directly proportional to the velocity and volume of the fluid. This rotation generates a pulsed electrical signal that is proportional to the speed of the rotor and represents the flow rate. The unique K-Factor of the Turbine Flow Meter declares the number of pulses generated for every unit of product passing through it. The device should only be used in clean, lubricating fluids and requires a constant back pressure to prevent cavitation.
Turbine flow meters have several advantages and disadvantages. One of the main advantages is that they are versatile sensors that can be used for both liquid and gas applications. They are highly accurate and precise, easy to install, have a low pressure loss, and produce a direct digital output. They are also suitable for high-pressure measurement and have different structures that can adapt to various needs. Turbine flow meters are low cost and easy to install and operate, and they rarely have performance issues.
However, turbine flow meters have some disadvantages as well. They are sensitive to viscosity changes and are not suitable for higher viscosity fluids flow measurement. They can also be affected by flow disturbances and require clean, dry samples. They need lubrication oil to prolong their service life and require frequent calibration checks. They require filters, long straight pipe sections, and compensation measures to maintain accuracy. The installation needs to be carried out correctly, and performance is difficult to improve for small sensor sizes.
