A rotameter is a type of flowmeter that uses the throttling principle to measure fluid flow. It adjusts the flow area of the fluid to maintain a constant differential pressure above and below the rotor. This type of flowmeter is also known as a variable flow area constant differential pressure flowmeter.

What is a rotameter?

A float flowmeter, also known as a rotameter or variable area flowmeter, is a device used to measure fluid or gas flow. It measures the fluid flow according to the throttling principle, but it adjusts the flow area of the fluid to maintain a constant differential pressure above and below the rotor.

This type of flowmeter is also known as a variable flow area constant differential pressure flowmeter. The float flowmeter is based on the position of the float, which is used to indicate the flow rate.

Rotameter types

Rotameters can be classified from different angles like follows:

a. According to the material of the tapered tube, it is divided into transparent tapered tube rotameter transmitter and metal tapered tube flow meter.

b. According to whether there is remote signal output, it is divided into local indication type and remote signal output type, like rotameter with analog output, the latter is divided into two types: electric shock signal rotameter and electric signal flow indicator.

c. According to the measured fluid, it is divided into liquid rotameter flow meter, gas and steam rotameter flow indicator.

d. According to the amount of the measured fluid passing through the rotameter, it is divided into full flow type and split flow type rotameter flow meter .
